ArtaBus Tips

All Motor Coach Companies must comply with additional Regulation as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

HOURS OF SERVICE:

One of the most Safety Sensitive rules is the number of hours your driver may drive in a Twenty Four (24) hour period, that is, your driver must not be required or permitted to drive more than a total of Ten (10) hours following Eight (8) consecutive hours off duty.

The second part of the above rule is your driver must not be on duty for more than a total of Fifteen (15) hours following Eight (8) consecutive hours off duty. The total of Fifteen (15) hours on duty hours encompasses the time your driver reports for work at the bus garage, inspect his/her bus, drives to your pickup location, loads the baggage, drives to the destination (including all Safety Stops, meal stops, side trips to the mall, refueling the bus, etc.), Then unloads the bus at the hotel/school, and ending his/her day by servicing their bus's.

The third and final part of the hours of service regulation is that your driver MUST have Eight (8) consecutive hours off duty before going back to work the next day, and he/she must log his/her hour of service for each day.

SERVICING THE BUS:

It is very important to allow time at the end of each day for your driver to service his/her bus. The time normally needed will be about One (1) hour to clean up, mop, and have the rest room dumped. This should be done on a daily basis.

SAFETY AND REFUELING STOPS:

DOT regulations require that your driver at intervals not to exceed Three (3) hours make a Safety Stop to do a walk around of the bus to inspect the tires, lights, and to check for any signs of water, oil, air leaks and to bring their logs up to date if needed. Your drivers will be solely responsible for the choice of location and time for refueling their bus's.

DRIVERS ROOM(S):

In the event there is a need for over night lodging, the chartering party should at the same time book a single room for each driver.

It is our desire that the above guidelines will be a valuable tool and give you a better understanding of the Charter Bus Companies regulations and limitations and to ensure that your bus trip will be well organized so that you and your group will have a super trip.
